It may be ‘old-hat’ in graphic design terms, but nature still seems able to appear to use the technique. I took this photo from the cliffs at Barton-on-Sea because I thought it gave an interesting effect. I liked the image because of the strong angle of the sea and beach, the way the waves were washing up to form another wavy line, and the way the damp stones between the sea and dry beach make a ‘natural’ drop shadow almost lifting the sea away from the beach in another ‘layer’ or plain. Can you see the effect too, or is it just me? I like the image artistically regardless of seeing the effect. In the second image below, I was attempting to enhance the photo by post-processing the image.
